Vista House at Crown Point

Camp Manucha overlooks the Vista House and would be a great starting point for your Columbia River Gorge adventures.

"The Vista House was built as a rest stop observatory for travelers on the old Columbia River Gorge Highway and as a fitting memorial honoring Oregon’s pioneers—particularly those who made their way down the Columbia River. Described by its architect, Edgar M. Lazarus, as “a temple to the natural beauty of the Gorge,” Vista House has long been recognized for its historic significance and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1974."

Explore the rich history of the Vista House before you explore the beautiful architecture in person.

2012 Reunion Activities

We've been brainstorming ideas for activities and are asking for your help.

We are recruiting coordinators for each activity. These are just suggestions. If any of this sounds fun, and you'd like to help out, we'll get you as much information as we can and we'll let you take it from there.
If there's something you would like to do at the reunion, and could help get it organized, please let us know!

Suggested Activities:
  •   A Sunday cruise on the Portland Spirit just prior to the reunion on Sunday afternoon. Departs from Cascade Locks.
  •   A fishing trip, either before, during or after the reunion. Stuart suggested this one. Wayne, can you help him out?
  •   A gathering after dinner the first night to get to know everyone again
  •   Hiking in the waterfall area of the Columbia Gorge. Allison has volunteered to coordinate this activity. Does anyone else want to help her?
  •   A driving tour of the waterfalls and Columbia River Gorge.
  •   Gather brochures for "on your own" activities. There are many visitor sites nearby; hot springs, wineries, museums, etc.
  •   Crafts or games for the kids. Come up with some ideas and a list of supplies.
  •   A memorial for family members who have passed away: Grannie Lloyd, Grandpa Lloyd, Duane, John, Jackie, Mick, Mike, Johnnie, Florence, Donald, Henry, Colleen.  John & Sharon have volunteered to lead this special time of memories. Anyone else want to help?
  •   Music. We'll have lots of opportunities to gather in the common meeting areas. There is a piano. Some of you play guitar (or other instruments?) How about some nice playlists on your iPod for background music?
  •   Swimming. There is a beautiful pool on site. We need someone to coordinate the swim times for our family, so we have an adult there at all times to lifeguard.
  •   Family tree. Margaret will want to update the family tree with new members, photos and missing information.
  •   Silkscreen tee shirts.  Is anyone interested in designing a logo? Helping with the silkscreening.
  •   Lloyd Family Blog. Nick will be putting this together, so we can share information. It will also be a way for everyone to post questions and everyone can get the answers.
We would really like to see Colleen¹s kids, Lauren, Derek and Justin get to this reunion.  A small part of your fee will be used to get them there.

We're thinking of an auction at this reunion to raise funds for the next reunion, in 2015. If you have any reunion tee shirts that no longer fit, or if you have duplicates, bring them and we¹ll auction them off. We'll have some mementos of the 2012 reunion and maybe past reunions to auction off.

Check In & Out Times

Check-in will be 4-6 pm Sunday, July 15. Dinner will be at 6:00 pm. Check out will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday, July 18, with our last meal at noon.

Questions? We've Got Answers.

To kick things off we're going to do a good old fashion Q & A thread. Curious about something? Post your questions here! This is a group activity... if you know the answer be sure to share it here!

Welcome to the Lloyd Family Reunion blog!

Hello Lloyd family! This blog is intended to serve as a central source for information, plans, and ideas for upcoming family reunions as well as a place to connect and share all the fun stories and photos from past reunions. This blog is very much a "work in progress" and will continually evolve as the scope of content begins to reflect how we are using it. Currently I am working on adding a shared photo album so we can upload our photos and share them with the entire family all at once!

As more information about the 2012 Lloyd Family Reunion becomes available it will be shared here. I have also included some important links on the right hand side to help you plan your trip. There is also an RSS feed from the Menucha Retreat that will automatically update with any important news and information from the resort.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please comment here using the "comment" tool. Your comment will be displayed as a public comment for everyone to see and also respond to. If you have any questions about how to participate in this blog please send me an email at nick.scafidi@gmail.com and I will gladly offer my assistance the best that I can.

Thanks so much! Happy blogging!
